MUSICAL FUN FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

BASO will present a FREE concert for kids of all ages at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, in Corson Auditorium at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Designed with young listeners and their families in mind, the afternoon will feature “The Composer is Dead,” a musical whodunit by composer Nathaniel Stookey with text by Lemony Snicket, along with music from the animated films “Ratatouille” and “How to Train Your Dragon.” Admission is free for everyone.
In “The Composer is Dead,” a narrator leads the audience through a comic murder mystery in which every section of the orchestra is a suspect. As the inspector questions the strings, the woodwinds, the brass and the percussion, kids get to hear what each family of instruments sounds like and discover how they work together — all in the darkly funny style Snicket fans know from “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” The orchestra will round out the program with Michael Giacchino’s Suite from “Ratatouille” and John Powell’s soaring score to “How to Train Your Dragon.”
The concert will also feature a special performance by the Benzie Youth String Program, which introduces young people in Benzie County to string instruments and ensemble playing.
The auditorium is located on the campus of Interlochen Center for the Arts, 4000 M-137, in Interlochen, Michigan. Admission is free for all ages. Donations to the orchestra are gratefully accepted to help support its continued operations in Benzie County and beyond, including programs that bring live orchestral music to young audiences.

The Music by American Composers, like Leonard Bernstein - West Side Story, John Philip Sousa - Stars and Stripes Forever and Aaron Copland - Hoedown and Fanfare for the Common Man; with a thoughtful narration written by historian and musician, Elizabeth Blondia and presented by Bill Dungjen will have you on your feet.
Thanks to our supporters, we are able to offer this concert - FREE to military members and veterans and children under 18. Tickets available only at the door. Suggested donation of $15 for all others.
