A versatile musician, DR. HYEMIN KIM has a wide range of musical careers as a soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist, coach, and educator. As a featured concerto soloist, Dr. Kim has been invited to perform with several orchestras, including Philharmonischen Solisten Bratislava at Mozart Hall at Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna, Austria and Archi Chamber Orchestra at Sungsan Art Hall in Changwon, South Korea.
As an active recitalist, her recent highlight includes an appearance at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall in New York City and she had invitation performances from Youngsan Grace Hall, Daejeon Culture and Art Foundation (South Korea); Bad Goisern Landesmusikschule, Panmusica Austria, Landesverband Steiermark, Korean Association in Graz (Austria); Beacon Hill at Eastgate, and the Music House Museum in Traverse City (USA).
As a chamber musician, Dr. Kim is a founding member of Radius Clarinet Trio based in East Lansing, MI. She also was invited as a pianist at the Styrian Chamber Music Festival in Graz, Austria, and cooperated with artistic director and cellist Erich Oskar Huetter. She also appeared at the Henry Purcell’s Opera “Dido and Aeneas” as a Harpsichord player at Interlochen Arts Academy, and has collaborated with many music faculty members from the Flint Institute of Music, Albion College, Spring Arbor, Interlochen Arts Academy, Michigan State University (Michigan), Prayner Conservatory (Austria), Sunhwa Art School, Mokwon University, Sahmyook University, Korea Baptist Theological University Seminary, Seokyeong University, Sookmyung Women’s University and Gangwon National University (Korea). Dr. Kim has won numerous prizes and awards at international competitions, including the Internationaler Wiener Pianisten-Wettbewerb, where she received a Schubert Special Award; the Vienna Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition; the Concorso Internazionale de Esecuzione Musicale “NUOVI TALENTI” - Città di Spinea; the Tadini International Music Competition; the Concorso Internazionale - Città di Ischia; Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition; Franz Liszt Center Piano Competition, and American Protégé International Competition. Dr. Kim received double Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in both Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano from Michigan State University, fully supported by graduate assistantships; the Master of Music degree and Postgraduate Diploma from Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz, Austria; and the Bachelor of Music degree from Kookmin University, South Korea. Her principal teachers include Deborah Moriarty, Zhihua Tang, Panayis Lyras, Otto Niederdorfer, Philipp Richardsen, and Chul-Hee Yoon. Dr. Hyemin Kim serves as a Collaborative Pianist and teaches secondary piano classes at Interlochen Arts Academy. She had previously served as Piano Instructor at the Flint Institute of Music.
